I've seen people talk about autosurfs (automatic traffic exchanges, e.g. HitLeap) here. Autosurfing is something I've been doing for years and in this post I'll try to explain how to set everything up so you can autosurf 24/7 and protect your system against viruses.
In the spirit of full disclosure, if I was just starting out, I'd never bother with autosurfs. It takes a while to see any results, and there's not much you can use their traffic for.
If you invest an hour or two into setting things up, you can run a bunch of autosurfs 24/7 (separate machine) or launch them with one click (if using your main PC).
1. Get Firefox. Create a new profile if you plan on running this on your main PC and use Firefox there, otherwise just go with the main one. Install NoScript extension and disable scripts globally.
If you created a new profile, make a new shortcut for it. It should look like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p Autosurf -no-remote
I hear Chrome can also disable scripts and have multiple profiles, but I never used it myself.
2. Apply some optimizations for your new profile in about:config. . This will disable your back / forward history and restoring on crash, but who needs that?
browser.sessionhistory.max_entries 0
browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers 0
browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes 0
browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo 0
browser.sessionstore.max_windows_undo 0
In Privacy settings, do not use perma-private mode, just Use custom settings for history and uncheck everything. That's because you still want disk cache to speed things up.
You can also disable images (set permissions.default.image to 2) and cookies globally. This will save you some bandwidth, but it will take a few extra steps to set up. If running on a low-power system, I highly recommend disabling them to reduce memory and CPU usage even further.
3. Start opening autosurfs and enable scripts for each one in NoScript, and also images and cookies if you disabled them globally (View Page Info > Permissions > check Load Images and Set Cookies). Don't have enough autosurfs? Try this list.
4. Now set your homepage to open all surfbars (the surfing link of the autosurf) you have automatically. Either open them all in tabs and tell Firefox to "Use Current Pages", or enter them manually, separated by | symbol... Like this:
http://www.autosurf1.com/view.php?id=xxx|http://www.autosurf2.com/surf.php?user=xxx
If you're using this on your main computer, you're pretty much done. Just double click that shortcut and autosurfing starts immediately.
Otherwise, use Task Scheduler to launch your autosurfing Firefox profile at startup (with a small delay to let things load), and also make another task which would restart your PC every few hours. Or make a batch file to kill the firefox.exe process and launch it again. Or use AutoHotkey to achieve the same, plus sign in into autosurfs which require you to login before surfing. Maybe even do some clever Linux magic (which I know nothing about) to automate it all. Whatever, just be inventive or Google it.
The reason restarts are needed is because when used in this manner (say, 10 surfbars running at the same time) Firefox eventually starts using ridiculous amounts of memory and crashes. Not all versions have this problem; it started happening after some update, and in all likelihood, will eventually be fixed (And then start again. Just Google "Firefox memory leak"). Also, sometimes autosurfs will time out, so it's a good idea to restart every now and then regardless.
5. I've talked about autosurfs which run in your browser, but what about standalone ones like HitLeap? NoScript will protect you against pretty much all the crap rotating in autosurfs, but for standalone apps, I suggest running them via Sandboxie. The free version is enough for this. Launch your autosurf stuff through Sandboxie via Startup shortcut, Task Scheduler, .bat file, whatever:
"C:\Program Files\Sandboxie\Start.exe" c:\blahbla\surfer.exe
So what you should use all this traffic for? Well, if you're reading this post, you should already have some ideas. PTP, Fiverr sales, promoting your referral links, whatever. Personally I just promote other autosurfs.
I hope someone will find this useful. But, like I said, don't expect miracles. In fact, if you don't have a clear plan what to use autosurf hits for, maybe don't waste your time. Autosurfs aren't considered a "serious" way of marketing or making money, to put it mildly.
